ABOUT SHORE LEGAL ACCESS
Connecting Counsel & Communities
Our mission is to support and assist individuals and families who are unable to afford representation in civil legal matters and to provide connections to community services.
We envision ALL people are empowered to resolve civil legal issues.
Shore Legal Access makes the law affordable and accessible to Eastern Shore residents facing challenges in the area of civil legal matters, including family, life and estate planning, consumer debt, and housing law, as well as criminal record expungement. Its staff and volunteer attorneys empower individuals and families to resolve legal issues while helping those new to the law understand their role in advocating for their individual rights and responsibilities. Clients of Shore Legal Access walk away with an attorney in their corner, connections to community services, and a new perspective on the law.
We were founded in 2006 as Mid-Shore Pro Bono, where we were the first regional pro bono organization in Maryland to commit to connecting private attorneys with people of limited financial means in need of representation. Supported by a small group of dedicated and compassionate local judges and attorneys, our focus was primarily on the mid-shore region of the Eastern Shore. Since our founding, we have expanded to cover the entirety of the Eastern Shore, which led us to our rebrand in 2023 to reflect the full scale of the region we serve.
Annually, Shore Legal Access connects more than 3,000 clients with legal representation, and our network of volunteer attorneys provides over $2 million in free legal services. We are based in Easton, Maryland with a satellite office located in Salisbury.
