A major goal of Shore Legal Access in 2025 was to expand our life planning clinics to reach more individuals throughout the Eastern Shore. These clinics help neighbors prepare essential documents—wills, advance directives, and powers of attorney—so they can plan for the future with confidence. By hosting pop-up clinics and recurring monthly clinics, we’re able to provide essential legal services to more Eastern Shore residents.
To achieve this goal, we sought help from our community partners in Worcester and Somerset Counties to identify locations and opportunities for pop-up clinics.
Over in Somerset County, Shore Legal Access prioritized a renewed relationship with the Westover Senior Center’s senior services director, Ashley Nelson Tawes. Meeting people where they are is a central tenet of our service model, and a senior center is a great way to connect with more seniors! A presentation was hosted in September, followed by a pop-up clinic on October 28.
Pro bono attorneys were on-site to work with seniors on their life planning documents, and once all documents were drafted, Shore Legal Access returned back to the center for ease of convenience. Rather than require the seniors to find transportation to our Salisbury location, we brought the paperwork back to them so they could complete the paperwork.
A similar process took place in Worcester County, which led to the establishment of a recurring clinic at WorCOA 50plus in Snow Hill. Participants will be able to take advantage of Shore Legal Access’ free and low-cost services on the third Tuesday of every month going forward. Our Life Planning Case Manager/Outreach Coordinator, Carly Nascimbeni, is especially looking forward to revisiting WorCOA, where two of her clients regularly gift her homemade peanut brittle!
We’re so grateful for our volunteer attorneys and community partners who make these monthly and pop-up clinics possible. With their help, we’re able to serve more neighbors and prepare them and their families for what’s ahead.
