Volunteers
Help us make a difference in our communities.
Shore Legal Access demystifies the legal system by making it affordable and accessible to Eastern Shore families and individuals facing challenges, thanks to the support of volunteer attorneys and regional community services. But we also need help when it comes to non-legal matters! Here are some ways you can make a difference for individuals in need:
Interpreters and/or Translators: Do you speak a foreign language? Can you translate legal documents or interpret for us? If so, we can use your abilities! We are especially in need of volunteer interpreters with proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and American Sign Language.
For more information about any of these opportunities please contact us at [email protected].
Shore Legal Access connects low-income individuals and families in crisis to life-changing legal help. Founded in 2005, Shore Legal Access is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and the only such agency on the Shore. Our dedicated staff and volunteers are working to break down barriers and provide access to justice on the Eastern Shore. We help bridge that gap!
The Eastern Shore has some of the highest poverty rates in Maryland, and because of our rural geography, people in need lack access to legal services and basic resources. Shore Legal Access provides free legal help to those struggling with such serious issues as custody and divorce, end-of-life decision-making, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and, in some cases, immigration. Our clients are your neighbors, your friends, and your coworkers, and helping them in times of crisis improves our Eastern Shore community as a whole.
Our dedicated staff and volunteer attorneys are known for providing exceptional service to Eastern Shore residents. Our clients receive one-on-one, personal attention from our volunteer attorneys and compassionate understanding from our staff. So many of our clients have major hurdles to overcome — such as little formal education or difficulty speaking English — and lack basic resources. They come to us feeling overwhelmed at best and hopeless at worst, and oftentimes, they do not realize the magnitude of their problem or that there is a legal remedy. We help bridge that understanding!
We can best respond to local needs because we are deeply embedded in the community. Our offices in Easton and Salisbury allow us to serve our clients in the communities where they live and work.
