One of the things Shore Legal Access seeks in an intern is a passion for community service and an interest in social justice. Jordan Jackson more than meets this criteria. A self-described “doer”, Jordan carries out responsibilities efficiently with an energetic and positive attitude. Her interest in government and customer service is immediately apparent given what she has accomplished in her youth.
Currently, Jordan is a first-generation college student at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) studying [INSERT MAJOR HERE]. Prior to joining the Shore Legal Access team as a Sandy Brown Public Interest Intern for the fall semester, she worked in Baltimore City as a Junior State’s Attorney. She also has held multiple roles in various, fast-paced environments focused on customer service. And fun fact: she’s a member of the Ambiance Dance Company, which performs at different school and community events!
Throughout the internship, Jordan’s responsibilities included assisting staff with client screenings, intakes, and data entry; case management and client scheduling; representing Shore Legal Access at community outreach events, and more. She has been able to observe firsthand the civil legal system, along with its inherent barriers, and work with clients and partners of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
“Jordan has been a wonderful addition to our internship program this Fall—exhibiting exceptional professionalism, initiative, and dedication for the work Shore Legal Access prides themselves on. She has been super supportive of our clients, being genuine and thoughtful during their times of need,” said Elliett Earhart, Lower Shore Housing Case Manager.
As Jordan continues her academic endeavors, she has her eyes set on working as a case manager to work hand-in-hand with attorneys while growing her depth of expertise. She shared, “What really stood out to me during my internship was the professionalism that everyone has. It takes patience, time, and communication with your colleagues.”
Thank you, Jordan, for your commitment and dedication to Shore Legal Access! We’re excited to see where you go next!
The Sandy Brown Public Interest Internship Program was created to honor former executive director Sandy Brown, and her work to increase access to civil justice for clients. Internships are available to any undergraduate or graduate student interested in the law, social justice, community service, and non-profit management. Stipends of $3,500 are available for each intern, ensuring that student interns are appropriately compensated for their time.
